Welcome to Rebuilding Together Metro Denver's eNews. Once each month we send out news of our programs and the people making it possible. Please forward to friends or colleagues who might also be interested in keeping our neighbors warm, safe, and dry and living in independence.

From Laurie McCaw,
Executive Director:

Rebuilding Together forges ahead as we gear up for National Rebuilding Day - just under 60 days from now! It is very gratifying to see the level of support from our sponsors and supporters. We thank our corporations and businesses, our Jaycee groups and Rotary clubs, School and youth groups that step up to help, and the MANY in-kind suppliers and businesses that volunteer in COUNTLESS ways! And, of course the hundreds of volunteers that will be working on Rebuilding Day and their leaders: the RT House and Skilled Captains!

2005 Rebuilding Day will be the largest ever for the metro Denver affiliate. 33 homes will be repaired throughout the metro area in Aurora, Commerce City, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood and Westminster. A nonprofit facility will also be rehabilitated this year.

Homeowner Spotlight

On April 30th Carol will welcome
the Cherry Creek Jaycees Team
into her home of 26 years for modification and repairs.

Carol is an independent woman. Confined to a wheel chair with a degenerative disease, she had to stop working in 1991. Still, she manages very well, living alone with her 4 cats. She is so independent that she does her own laundry - in the basement.

She has it all worked out. She tosses down the laundry, then lowers herself out of her wheelchair and crawls down the stairs to where she has another chair. When the laundry's done, she reverses the process.

On April 30th the Cherry Creek Jaycees will install a lift on her basement stairs so she'll no longer have to crawl down to do her laundry.

Carol's house is one that will be featured in a PSA
airing on UPN Channel 20 during April

Another First for Rebuilding Together Metro Denver

Ball Corporation, a new sponsor this year, is repairing and revitalizing three homes on Rebuilding Day 2005.

Two of the homes are located within blocks of each other, the third about a mile away, all in Commerce City.

Repairs will include doors, windows, gutters, plumbing, grab bars, painting and appliances.

The volunteers from Ball will be making a significant contribution to this community!
