Denver's a winner!

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver is proudly joining forces with HGTV this spring to make a visible difference in the Curtis Park neighborhood.

Thank you everyone who voted for Denver in the recent "Change the World. Start at Home." contest. Our partners will be HGTV, The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Project #1: Paula's Home

that is among the areas of her home needing repair.

Three major projects in historic Curtis Park will occur as part of this campaign during Change the World Week, April 28-May 2.

This 1880's home is in need of both repairs and accessibility improvements for Paula's safety.

Many volunteers are needed to refinish the porch, reinforce the handrails, strip wallpaper, paint, replace carpet, repair the sidewalk, install grab bars, and build a downstairs bathroom.

Project #2: Educational Facility

Join the ASCE Colorado Section members who will launch this project on Rebuilding Day to complete the following repairs and renovations that will help expand the capacity of the Women's Bean Project:

Refinish original wood floors, banister, stairs, and fire fighters lockers; repair bathroom; paint interior; improve energy efficiency of windows; paint exterior trim; landscape; and build partitions to reconfigure the offices.

Project #3: Open Space

Help create a shady canopy of trees in the Curtis Park neighborhood by planting trees along Park Avenue and Stout Street under the Mayor's Green Streets and Million Trees initiative.

Volunteers are needed to canvass property owners for permission to plant as well as the actual planting.

Volunteer for these projects! Click here to go to the online volunteer application and select which of the three projects you prefer to work on. Remember to include your availability since these projects will cover several days of work. Space is limited and volunteers will be assigned on a "first come, first served" basis.

32 RTMD Volunteers on their way to New Orleans

Rebuilding efforts in the hurricane ravaged Gulf area continue to make progress and Denver volunteers are big contributors. 32 volunteers, including two RTMD staff members, head out this weekend to work all next week to help as many homeowners as possible return to their homes.

They will be back in time for the Open House (next article) and will have pictures and stories of hard work, challenge and joy to share.

National Rebuilding Day 2008 to be the largest ever

40 projects! 1 day! Over 1,000 volunteers!

April 26, 2008 will bring the largest Rebuilding Day yet in the Denver metro area. 40 volunteer teams will be working all over town to help low-income seniors and people living with disabilities to live in safety and independence, to age in place in their own homes, and to revitalize neighborhoods.

Our volunteers will be part of the National effort that will take place in all 50 states, rehabilitating over 10,000 homes nationwide, all on that one day.

The gallery will go up on our website on February 1st, showing all the teams and all the projects. This effort will serve over 100 of our neighbors, accomplishing over $500,000 in repair and renovation value in our community.

If your organization is not sponsoring a project this April, but you would like to participate, consider supporting a Community Team. Please contact Mary Eisenstein for more details at (303)217-2076 or by email.
