Vote for HGTV support for Denver rebuilding projects

Starting today RT projects across the U.S. are featured on a microsite of the HGTV website called "Change The World.. Start At Home." Visitors to the website can view all of the RT projects and will have chance to vote for their favorites.

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver needs your votes because the four affiliates with the most votes will receive support funding for three major renovation projects and highlights of the work will be featured on HGTV.

Be part of the change and vote for Denver! Bookmark the site - you can vote once each day from each computer from now until the voting ends in late December.

Forward to your friends and family and get them voting, too! Make your vote count for RTMD. Winners will be announced January 1st during the HGTV coverage of the Rose Parade.

Volunteer for these projects at the HGTV site or directly with RTMD. Click here to go to the online volutneer application and select "HGTV - Change the World Start at Home" on the team list.

Note: You may have seen the news lately about changes at the Curtis Park Community Center. As a result we have replaced that portion of our project and are extremely pleased to announce that the educational facility we will be working on will be the Women's Bean Project. The HGTV website will be updated to reflect the change, but in the meantime if you'd like to see more about the work we'll be doing there click here or go to www.rebuildingdenver.org/changetheworld.htm.

The Women's Bean Project is housed in this

Watch Denver volunteers on the TV show "Carter Can" this week

“When homeowners can’t Carter Can” reads the tagline for HGTV’s new hit show, Carter Can with hunky host, Carter Oosterhouse. Tune in on Nov. 15 at 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. to watch our very own volunteers from RTMD as they painted, decorated, and refurbished an activity room this past summer for Warren Village.

Visit the HGTV website in November and December to cast your vote for RTMD and we could win an opportunity to work with HGTV again next April.

A Time to Be Grateful: Fall Rebuilding Day Impacts 18 Area Families

Nearly 450 volunteers came together on a sunny and very windy Saturday, October 6, for Rebuilding Day to repair and revitalize homes for 18 families in the Denver metro area. While the families we helped came with different challenges including grandparents who are raising not only their grandchildren but great grandchildren; a young family coping with several recent tragic losses; and single, elderly individuals who are living alone without the assistance of family, friends or neighbors, each of our homeowners deeply appreciated the dedication and heart of the volunteer teams that.
Ninety percent of low-income families in the U.S. have annual incomes of less than $15,000. Faced with a choice between buying food and medicine or making costly home repairs, our homeowners would not be able to make the needed safety modifications and repairs to their homes without RTMD. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and sponsors, RTMD is not only repairing homes, but we are transforming lives.

“I cannot begin to express my appreciation to all of you for the work you did on my home. Everyone was so wonderful and worked so hard. The people and the work was awesome. My heart is truly overflowing with thankfulness…”

–Jerri

Rebuilding Day Repair Highlights:

  • Repaired ramps
  • Replaced doors and windows
  • Installed tub surrounds & bathroom plumbing work
  • Replaced a sidewalk
  • Installed grab bars, shower seats, and hand-held showerheads

“We want to thank every one of the volunteers that helped with the repairs done at our parents house. It is truly a blessing that this was done for our family. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten, in fact, every time we walk in the house we will feel the warmth, help and kindness you all did.

--The Lopez family children

Rebuild 1000 set for January in New Orleans

For the second year, RTMD will travel to New Orleans as part of a national initiative to rebuild hurricane-ravaged homes. Volunteers, both skilled and unskilled, are needed to join us the week of January 13-19. This is an incredible opportunity to change lives and revitalize neighborhoods. Please contact Mary Brook, Director of Volunteer Services by email or 303-217-2077 if you would like to have fun, work hard, learn new skills, and make a big difference for the families of New Orleans. Or sign up online now - select "Rebuild 1000 - New Orleans, January 2008" in the box for team.

Emergency Repairs Program Update

In July RTMD launched its Emergency Home Repair program to meet the urgent needs of low-income homeowners. Since the program launched, eight families had water heaters replaced or repaired, seven homeowners have received plumbing repairs, and two families have had electrical repairs performed.

Stove Up in Flames: A Homeowner Story
After a grease fire ignited his stove and the fire department came out to douse the flames,
Perry, 68 years old, didn’t know how he could afford to replace it. Volunteers of America recommended that Perry call RTMD. As part of our new Emergency Home Repair program, RTMD was able to purchase and install a brand new stove for Perry. Now he can safely fix himself his meals without the danger of another fire.
“The stove…it’s absolutely beautiful. I can’t thank you and your people enough...
I needed something to cook my food so I can eat. Thank you! Thank you!” –Perry

Cash assistance offered via Energy Outreach Colorado

As energy costs continue to rise, it is increasingly difficult for Colorado's most vulnerable residents to afford their home energy expenses. Families with children, senior citizens and individuals with special needs must allocate more of their limited resources to pay their energy bills.

Sometimes they do without necessities like medical care and food in order to keep the lights on.

Energy Outreach Colorado is dedicated to keeping Colorado homes warm, healthy and safe by raising money for energy assistance. They assist people in emergency situations by helping pay the balances on their utility bills. Rebuilding Together Metro Denver is proud to be one of the providers for this program.
