From Laurie McCaw, Executive Director:

Dear Friends,

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver has moved! We were offered a wonderful opportunity to sublease office space from another nonprofit, and we took it. Our new space came complete with more functional work and meeting areas, office furniture, an improved phone system, and internet access, all of which will help support the growth in services we are experiencing (see the note below on our new emergency services program for one example).

We are now at:

4100 East Mississippi Avenue, Suite 710
Denver, Colorado 80246
(303) 217-2070 main
(303) 217-2080 fax

Hope to see you soon in the new office, at the gala event in September, or on Rebuilding Day in October!

In partnership,

Laurie McCaw signature

New Emergency Home Repair Service Launches

Emergency home repairs are now offered through the Emergency Home Repair Program at no cost to low-income seniors by RTMD. Qualified homeowners with urgent needs that would present an immediate danger to the residents of the home or that would leave a person without heat, water, or electricity, can now contact RTMD for assistance.

Startup funds for the Emergency Home Repair Program came from The Colorado Trust as part of their four-year (2007-2011), $6.5 million Healthy Aging Initiative to improve information and referral services for seniors, increase access to senior support services, address senior residential needs, strengthen caregiver support services, and promote healthy lifestyles and overall wellness among seniors.

The demand for emergency repair services has already been high, including a burst water heater causing all water to the home to be shut off and dangerous electrical problems.

Repair a Home in October with Your Friends

RTMD has very exciting news! “Matching funds” are available to groups of friends or general volunteers to rebuild up to five homes this October. Half the funds needed to rebuild each home will be provided as a match to funds raised. Now it’s up to you! With a small amount of additional fundraising and 15-20 friends, you can form a team to help one more low-income household become warm, safe, and dry. Volunteers and donations are needed to make these community team projects a reality, and help more seniors and people living with disabilities stay in their own homes independently and with dignity. Contact Chris Miller by email or 303.217.2075 to volunteer, donate, or learn more.

RT Partners with HGTV and the National Trust for Historic Preservation

Get ready to vote - for Denver! in a new collaboration called Change the World -- Start at Home! Rebuilding Together is partnering with HGTV and the National Trust for Historic Preservation in a series of projects for community revitalization to grow and sustain thriving, healthy, and abundant communities.

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver is one of 10 RT affiliates across the country that is identifying a set of projects to renovate an educational facility, a home, and a park or open space, in a historic neighborhood. These projects and the 10 cities will be featured on HGTV and on a special website where viewers will select 5 of the cities (by voting), that will then be funded and completed in conjunction with HGTV and volunteers.

The campaign kicks off in November with a week-long series of shows featuring smaller rebuilding projects. One of those will be filmed in Denver over the next few days. We still need a few more volunteers to help with general painting. If you have time available July 10th, 11th or 12th, please contact Laurie at 303-961-7806 to see how to get involved.

Stay tuned for more on the Denver projects and the program overall!

Heroes at Home

Rebuilding Together has recently partnered with Sears Holdings Corporation and Kmart to launch the Heroes at Home program, which provides necessary repairs or adaptations to homes of military families across America. It meets the home renovation needs of injured military personnel, or those members in financial hardship. Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran Army Specialist Ryan C. Major, 22, became the first recipient of the program on June 22 in Silver Spring, MD. Please click here to learn more about the projects completed at Specialist Major’s home, or here to visit the Heroes at Home website.

Heroes at Home is the first of three new programs that will be created as part of Rebuilding Together’s partnership with Sears Holdings. The two other initiatives will focus on preserving and rehabilitating neighborhoods in some of the nation’s largest cities and on helping needy individuals through home repairs.

Thank you! Aerotek for hosting the Golf Tournament

On Thursday, June 7, 2007, Aerotek hosted its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Saddle Rock Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado. The scramble format tournament kicked-off at 8AM on an overcast, but pleasant, day. Immediately following the tournament was a “Pig Roast” Luncheon and auction, all to benefit RTMD.

Thank you Aerotek and all the golfers and donors who participated!
