From Laurie McCaw, Executive Director:

Dear Friends,

It was a Perfect Day for revitalization and renewal!

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver couldn’t have asked for more perfect work conditions on Rebuilding Day, April 28th! With thermometers spiking at 78 degrees that day, our 900 plus volunteers were well positioned to finish what they started on 30 home project sites throughout the metro Denver area. From Golden to Aurora, and Centennial to Commerce City, volunteers made homes warm, safe and dry for 54 low income elderly and disabled homeowners in need, plus a school that serves 150 children per year. Since then, dozens of thank you letters from grateful homeowners have poured into the Rebuilding Together office. The expression of joy and gratitude has been tremendous – it is humbling reading their letters of appreciation and knowing that one day could make such a difference in someone’s life. It’s YOU, our volunteers, sponsors and supporters that made this all possible.

I like to reflect on the phrase “if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change”. I experienced it when touring projects and seeing the determination in your faces with the expectation of change and renewal. On behalf of our board and staff, thank you for your hard work, commitment and willingness to make it happen!

In partnership,

Laurie McCaw signature

Rebuild 1000! – A Tremendous Success!

Ms. Diane Johnson spent three days in the attic of her home with five other adults and one infant after the levee on Industrial Canal broke. Her home in the Holy Cross Neighborhood of New Orleans was flooded with twelve feet of water.

Thanks to the efforts of Rebuilding Together Volunteers, AmeriCorps*VISTA members and others from across the nation, Ms. Johnson's home is well on the way to being habitable.

Volunteers worked hard each day, enjoyed themselves, and were able to truly made a difference on four different homes. Ms. Verna Hunter was able to move back into her once nearly-destroyed home at the end of the work week.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with this trip. Rebuilding Together Metro Denver and New Orleans did an excellent job in all areas. I greatly appreciate all your effort in making this trip so special,” said Kathy Parker, RTMD Volunteer.

For more information about how you can participate in the next rebuilding effort in the Gulf, contact Mary Brook by email or by calling 720-524-0840 x106.
